1977 Evin 6hp waerpump housing or?

I am replacing te water pump on my 1977 6hp. I ordered the impeller from here at iboats. It fits on the shaft but is too big for the housing. I double checked the part numbers and they are right. Did they change the pump housing for this motor or did i get someting else wrong? If I need a different housing, a part number and a source would sure help. Thanks in advance.

Too big to bend the fingers to get it in the pump housing?

You have to flex the arms of the impeller to get it into the housing. Remember that the engine runs clockwise and that the impeller arms are bent and trailing while it turns. It can be fun to get the impeller stuffed inside the housing. I usually lubricate them with straight dishwashing soap and turn the driveshaft as I insert the arms and lower the housing onto the impeller.

Once you do it once, you'll never have any problem again.

appreciate the help guys. I've done a couple waterpumps on other motors before. This impeller is not just a little too big so that you could lube it and turn the drive shaft. Its way too big. I've still got a couple of fins on the old one to copare it to Thats why I was wondering if they started running a newer style housing and impeller.

Wrong impeller. Most of the original water pumps were replaced with # 763758 because they did not work very well. You need the impeller that goes with the updated water pump, OEM part #0763735.

Don't know if it helps or not, but I looked the impeler up again on this site. It offers a sierra and a mallory. They look different in the pictures. The mallory looks like it would fit my housing. I have the sierra. Any ideas?
