I bought a 1977 Evinrude 6hp model 6704M. According to boats.net and Crowley, et. The recoil starter assembly is part no 0388321. I can’t find it anywhere, but I see listings on eBay for this assembly for a 6hp Evinrude from the 70’s. but different part number. What are the chances that a different t part number for this assembly will for my motor. Appreciate the valued help-advice in advance

Those recoils are quite well made.----There are a few differences.-----An assembly from a 65 model to a 79 model will work.----Your location ?----If the recoil is missing / broken it indicates that previous owner had starting issues.-----Trouble shooting is recommended.----Start the motor with rope on the flywheel before spending beer tokens on a recoil.

If you do.....NOT......know the correct SAFE way to wind the rope around the flywheel ?
DO NOT attempt it !! There is only 1 safe way to hand start the motor.
