I think that the float just needs to be adjusted but I'm not sure.

the viton seat is not all the way down or its installed upside down....I have done many and learned the hard way...

When I took the old one out I saw how it was installed and thats how I put the new one in. I think if anything I may have put it in too deep and I need to pull it up a little because like I said before the float is at an upward angle by the time the needle hits.

when you say upward angle are you saying carb turned upside down w/needle seated and the float body is pointing more upwards or is it pointing closer to the carb body....singles are not to picky if your off on that float a wee bit up or down but if you have to bend the float tang to get to 11/64 between the float and lip of the carb your seat is not in the factory position.

and yes it could be to far down but at that rate you have deformed the viton seat, thats why I said
what ever you use needs to be real close to the size of the viton seat
I mean the punch needs to hug the needle well wall, if you use a smaller tool you run the risk of pushing the center of the viton below the lip it sets on and that will deform it.

I have seen and done all the mistakes of this simple operation....I still goof one up now and then when I push to hard or leave bits of viton behind in the lip....I have to dig them out clean the lip and drag out another new seat etc etc etc.

Good luck

Well I just adjusted the float and it started and ran a little better for about 10 seconds and then died but when it died it leaked gas like a hose. I have a shutoff valve on the gas line but it will only run with it closed and I'v even fiddled with the valve in different positions but it would just stop and start like always and now I'm running out of things to try so ANY advice is welcome. P.S. there is a second page that this continues on.

Here's a crochet hook;

You can get them at stores that sell cloth, sewing crap, wallyworld, etc.

The float ought to be pretty close to parallel to the carb casting when it's upside down, and the seat should have a groove in one face, not in the other - lead in with the grooved face. I get out my 29 pc drill set, and run drill shanks down the seat hole, till I find one that fits close, but slides freely all the way to the bottom - watch out here, because the hole is tapered a little, and you do not want one that seems slack at the top, and binds up further down. Double check that the needle to float clip's open end is pointed at the choke. I repeat that here, because like The Crabinator said, it matters.

I have done all of what you just said but the float still acts like it sticking and not cutting the gas flow.

mine also has the gravity fed tank , there is a shutoff valve on the left side ,is the valve clogged?

I got the problem solved, turns out that mine was not gravity fed and it was the fuel pump element. Thanks for your input though.

And alll this time I truly believed you had no pump element....the diagram I looked at didn't show it on that model look up at sears but what was hard for me to understand was how gravity flow would supply the engine when your down to a cup or 2 of fuel because of the angle of tank and fuel lines when its on the boat and under way, as it is the pump will drain the tank and thats a good thing to me.
