1977 Johnson seahorse will not idle

I recently bought a 77 seahorse and it works fine except it will not idle. Its not the gas I have tried that. Any ideas?

Can you give us a model number so we can tell what engine you have?

please explain what you mean by "it's not the gas". Do you mean you checked the condition of the fuel or that you checked to make sure it's getting fuel? My guess, dirty carb or weak fuel pump.

I would guess that it is time to overhaul the carbs. Those carbs have fixed jets, necessary to remove and clean all jets and passages and follow with compressed air.

I meant the gas itself. Everything else works fine so I didnt think it would be a fuel pump.

So if the fuel itself is good then there must be a mechanical problem, correct?

Do you have any history on this motor? Servicing, tune-ups, repairs?

If not then I would again suggest having the fuel system looked at.
