Hello
I want to install a water pressure gauge on my 77 140 johnson but I have no place to hook it up.I had a person tell me to drill and tap the boss on the exaust cover .the only one I see is right in the middle.Do any of you have a 1978 or later with a pee hose and can tell me were yours is coming from.Or can I drill mine like the man said.I need to raise my motor but I need to do this first.
Thanks for you help in advance!

yes, it can be done, i'm not total comfortable about directions, so i will recommend waiting for the other guys, to chime in. i do remember that you put grease on the drill bit so it collects the shavings, so not to go into the engine.

How i JUST ran into your problem, my solution was that i have an 86 evinrude V6 150 for parts I pulled the exhaust cover off and put on my 77 175 V6 evinrude that didn't have a pee hole. I will take a picture of my 79 v4 140 johnson and send to you. I would pulled the exhaust cover off drill and tap a pee hole, order another gasket from iboats. You will need the torque spec also.

Take a look at the attached diagram and then at your block. If you have the small extension shown at the arrow on your engine block, it is an excellent place to connect your tell tale. It is a half hour job at most and $11.00 in parts. You would need a drill and tap.

If you have the protrusion on the bubbleback shown here, you can go in there and run the hose to the top of the engine and then down.

Otherwise I would not do that. It is better to have the connection high on the engine to release trapped air.

Thanks guys I don't have either one of the the places on my motor that Ezeke showed pictures of.But I do have the boss in the middle of the exhaust cover thats on the one in his pictures, do you think it would be OK to drill it there.Looks like it's asking for it and then route the the line toward the top and down.

I drilled into the top of the cylinder on #1, just under where the coils mount. I'll take a picture sometime today and post it up.

Okay, i tried a couple of angles, and you really can't see much - it's kinda burried. Hopefully this will give you some kind of idea. You can see the cable-tie acting as a hose clamp, but the fitting blends in too well with the hose to really make it out. You can barely make out the fitting and some teflon putty just under the cable tie.

You should pull the exhaust cover and drill and tap, if your a first time DIY'er.

Here is how I did mine...73 115 Johnson.

One hose goes to the pee hole fitting I placed in the lower cowling and the other hose goes to the water pressure gauge. You should have a boss on the cylinder head you can drill and tap for the 1/4" pipe thread.

Re: 1977 johson with no pee hose

Drilled my exhaust cover yesterday went into the boss in the middle Used grease and took my time cleaned as I went and replaced with new grease on bit.You have about 3/8 to 1/2 an inch after you break threw before you his the inner cover. The only problem with this was I had to shorten my tap as i went till I had enough taper to get my brass 90 to start.Cost a tap.Cranked for a minute this morning after I got off work with a short piece of hose on my fitting and checked it out works great.Ordered a gauge should be here tomorrow. Thanks for all the in put from everyone.Ill try and get a picture so everyone can see what I should or should have not done.
Thanks
