Hello again, new question.... On the exhaust tube where it runs down and mates up to the lower unit. My motor has the large square like tube (the exhaust) and in the lower unit there is a plate that lays in there and I'm wondering is there supposed to be a sealing ring or something that fits on the end of the tube. I looked at the diagram and looks like it is supposed to be something there. It's not there on this motor. Could it have been left out at some point? Is it necessary? I noticed while running the motor with muffs it exhausts through the prop and through the small slits in the lower unit housing right behind the water inlet slits. Is this where it's supposed to exhaust? both places? If the exhaust tube is not sealed tight down there against the lower unit seems like it may melt the water pump housing or something?
thanks for any help

If you look at your motor on crowleymarine, look at the gearcase pic, # 37 is the seal you are talking about.

I don't have the lower unit off....to post a pic. already have it back on. just wondering if anything else is supposed to be at the end of the exhaust tube beside the flat metal plate that lays in the lower unit?
thanks

Ok I did see that but since there are so many variations of the motor and since mine didn't have the seal I wasn't sure if it was supposed to have it. I guess somebody left it out??

Was kinda confused about the "Notes: NOT PART OF GEAR HOUSING ASSEMBLY COMPLETE UNITED STATES 3761034 AND BELOW AUSTRALIA 8014004 AND BELOW CANADA 7025597 AND BELOW"

Mine is serial # 4735457

I'll have to find one of those and put it in. I'm so glad I get to drop the lower unit one more time. I was getting bored! haha!

and thanks for the link and the reply.

Re: 1977 merc 1150 exhaust question

Aren't outboards fun?

Yep, too much fun! I ordered 3 carb kits yesterday and sent them the correct model 1150 and serial 4735457 and year 1977 and ordered "MERCURY 115 1150 6CYL CARB REPAIR KIT 1395-5405" and they sent a refund right back and said they wouldn't fit my motor.
More fun trying to order parts than it is working on the motor.

Call your local merc dealer. They have a national lookup, if they don't have it they can find it. I needed a points cam for my 62 6 hp merc, long ago NLA, I called my Merc dealer here in town and he found one in Winnipeg.

Wait a minute... I may have looked wrong. On the crowley parts list below the diagram it shows #37 and below that on the parts ordering list it shows #37@2 and shows them having it. Not sure about 37 and 37@2 am I missing something?

Call the dealer with your serial number, it's all based on serial numbers , some did and some didn't based on what the serial number range is.
