1977 omc stringer 302-had a hard time staying running

I took my 1977 omc stringer electric shift out for the first time this season a few days ago

I left a full tank of gas in it over the winter.

It had a hard time staying running only when i put it in gear....Once i got her going she was fine Im thinking it might be the gas i left in it all winter

Any thoughts??

choke adjustment maybe in order as well

Year old gas should not be a problem. I do it every year but I make sure I fill the tank. That still does not mean that you do not have a gunked up carburetor, though.
