I'm pretty sure it's a omc out drive too, I'm at work but can add a picture later. It's all white and looked like another omc outdrive I saw on another boat.

as far as the motor goes, you would just have to change the exhaust manifolds.
then you need all the other mercruiser stuff from the motor on back (bell housing, exhaust y-pipe and bellows, inner/outer transom plates, outdrive, trim stuff...etc...

OKay, working on a doghouse on a different boat, long story, It seems on this boat that the inside of the dog house was damp or wet from all the crazy rain we've been getting here in Texas for the last month. Much needed though. My question is, what can I put on the inside of the doghouse on the exposed wood? I'm worried about the heat from the engine, giving off fumes, or catching something on fire. I thought of wood treatment, fiberglass, bed liner stuff, etc. I just want to keep it dry and make it last longer.

I've seen some folks put that fire retardant insulation, that stuff that has a real shiney Crome look side to it. Sorry don't know what the proper name is.
I think fiberglass would be the best thing for it though. Just my thoughts on it.

So fiber glassing the inside of the doghouse is okay?

mine had some reflective bubble wrap type of stuff glued to the wood. similar to what i've seen used in cars or hotrods

I did a quick search and couldn't find much. I did find a guy that glassed the inside corners and then covered the rest of the inside with epoxy.
Looks like most guys just glue that insulation in their. Don't know how well that helps with waterproofing thou.

I may resin the inside then. Is that the same as epoxy?

Pretty much the same stuff except epoxy is far stronger than a polyester resin.
Why not glass it and then put the insulation over it. It would be watertight and fire resistance.
Resin alone is weak and will crack and flake over time and by stepping on the doghouse and the abuse it gets its probably going to crack.

You must use Fiberglass when using Polyester resin. It will crack and be useless without it. Epoxy can be used by itself but not Polyester.

Okay, I feel like Im starting the boat wrong or something, at least I hope I am. it is a merccruiser 228. Is there a certain start up procedure I need to do with the throttle and turning the key to turn the boat on? I thought it was hit the round button below the handle itself , and that puts it in neutral and slide the throttle stick forward then turn the key to start? There are two buttons on the top left side and one button you cant see on the right side towards the inside of the boat. Here are some pictures. I get the blower working, the bilge, tilt and trim, the accessories and so on but no start up just a one click noise when turning the key.

Welcome aboard, you'll get a lot of help here. You need to check out some of the other iboater's projects like Friscoboater -1995-sea-ray-220-signature-deck-and-stringer-restoration.He goes thru it and has video's that help explain a lot.

I've been watching his videos for a few days now. He has about 90 of them for this rebuild he did. Some are upwards of 20 minutes long. I'm guessing he has close to 2 hours of video to watch. Very informative. I'd start there.

try leaving the throttle in the center. If in gear the cut off switch will not let it start. At least that's how mine works.

OKay so we spent hours it seemed like getting the starter out I started on one bolt and I think it was the wrong bolt. Then found two others, I reached one with mostly ease bent over and arm under the engine kind of ease. Then could only touch with one finger the furthest away bolt. My significant other had to get that bolt out for me. I couldn't reach it and I felt so bad for her but she got it out finally. We brought the starter to get tested and found out it was bad.....So maybe tomorrow we will try to put it back on. Its just so hard to reach in there and a 9/16 wrench you could only turn maybe a 8th of a twist every time. There is a funky wire I am worried about though. It is on two alligator clips. I don't like it.
