Greetings all,
I recently purchased a 1977 Seaswirl with an OMC 190 I/O motor. when I purchased it I had charged the battery and used some starter fluid and the motor fired right up. I took it out to the lake and cruised around for about 3 hours constantly turning off the motor and firing it back up. one particular time I cut the motor and it did not turn over. I took it home and since then have -replaced spark plugs
-ensured i had good fuel
-cleaned distributor cap
-installed new ignition wires

when I try to fire up the boat it just cranks but does not want to turn over. any thoughts on the issue?

crank = turn over

thinking you mean, engine turns over but does not start/run

since you've investigated fuel, next check would be for good, strong spark at the coil

Did you do any maintenance? Any new to you used boat needs all the maintenance done

Service your points, use a dwell meter to set them. Set the timing

Service the fuel system

Pull the drive and inspect the ball gears. Split the case and change the raw water pump

2X s with Scott on the ignition. You might want to look into a Petronics ignition conversion. OMC used Mallory and Petronic brand distributors.
If there are no overheating issues at this time you may get by on replacing the pump in the drive for now.
How much material is left on the ball gears right now?
