i guess im gonna try and do a build thread on my new boat its a 1977 sylvan not sure of the model but it looks identical to a starcraft ss, already have it completely gutted and flipped over. The previous owner enclosed the bow (very poorly) and put a layer of fiberglass cloth and resin over the entire bottom of the boat thats being a real p.i.t.a to get off but it has to one way or another. Thinking about making it a center console but havent set my mind on anything yet. Any suggestions?

sorry for no updates on this build still working on getting all the glass off the bottom....its about all off though after i removed the chines(i think thats what they're called) off the

bottom and removed all the rivets off the bottom of the boat...i know its crazy but im just replacing every rivet on this boat with low pro mil spec rivets, after finding so many

looose/broken rivets just figured do it once do it right plus after pulling off a few stringers inside (again not sure thats what theyre called) im glad i did because there was alittle

corrosion underneath them and i can take care of that but as soon as i make some decent progress ill post up some pics

Re: 1977 sylvan/starcraft build

and in case if anyone ever runs into another boat this guy covered in fiberglass the easieast way to get it off is about 3-4 coats of aircraft stripper scraping away between coats and covering with plastic after its applied....ive tried everything and this is the way to go, wire wheel on a grinder does it but its loud and slow chipping away at it works....there is no way to do it quickly, id really like to find the glass this guy used he must have got it from N.A.S.A or something ive never in my life seen anything stick this good to any kind of metal

on another note....once i get this thing done can i get in with the starcraft fleet?? (since the hull is technically the same thing) and i think starcraft would look better on the side than sylvan...just thinkin

Hey man, it's your boat. IMO there is no reason to do whatever you want.
When I repaint my Evinrude Hood, I'm going to add those round Bombardier stickers to it.
And mine is a sea nymph hull, but I figure I'm changing so much of the boat, that I'm going to change the name entirely.

I'll allow it :)
