I have just finished rebuilding my 1978 175hp Crossflow Evinrude. I powered it up once but it took quite a few cranks to get it running with a flush kit. It idled fine in the drive way. Unfotunately I had to take the carbs off to adjust the shift rod.
I have since put the carbs back on and was attempting to restart the engine in the driveway, it was still taking a long time to start after a while it sounded like it was going to kick over and it even did a few times, however I had cranked it so many times I wore one of the brushes out on my starter motor. I am now waiting for the starter motor brushes to come in.
I am wondering if there are any tricks to getting it to run properly. I have brand new plugs in it that i will probably clean again before trying to restart. Not sure what else to do and if this is a common problem after rebuilding?
Thanks,
Breilly
