This is the second part of my question which i posted a couple a days ago. I was wondering could the cause of my hard to pull rope, and the motor not starting, be the points and condensers? i know for a fact that these haven't been replaced in long time. Also how would i go about replacing/ checking these and also where could I buy them at? Thanks

A '78 does not have points and condensers, it has electronic ignition.

Go to the Engine FAQs, hunter.

"Outboard won't start" should get you on the right track.

hard to pull rope

Look under the hood - if it's the same as my 1975, you'll see a plastic or nylon "brake" starbord side towards the rear. It's supposed to hold the flywheel in Forward or reverse to prevent starting in gear. On mine, the nut loosened and the brake was starting to grab in Neutral. Simple adjustment.

What year did electronic ignition begin on these 25's?
