I have an older motor on a 16' Ouchita bass boat.
During my last outing I noticed a power loss. I applied the choke I got a surge of power that lasted until I dropped the choke. Out of the water, With the engine running at no load, and a muff atached I got the same indications. I pulled the carb apart and cleaned it throughly with carb cleaner and compressed air.
Both needle valve and seat look OK. I also checked the fuel pump and it appears the membrane is OK.
I also replaced the plugs, which I do every two
years anyway. I've replaced all fuel lines including the tank to engine line.
I have a carb kit but wanted to see if anyone has other suggestions before I tear it down again.

John,

Does it make a difference if you leave the fuel tank filler cap loose?

May not be a fuel problem, might be coils or plugs breaking down. Just a thought.

Your symptoms point to the carb. Go ahead and clean her again & put in the kit.
