Hi all- I have a 1978 Johnson motor that is a pull start, and would like to convert to electric start. The dealer wants 500 bucks for the kit. I bought a starter and solenoid and bracket off E-Bay for 85 bucks, and a key switch from the dealer for $21. The switch has 6 tabs on it. The dealer would not give me a wiring diagram, and said it wouldn't work. Something about a neutral saftey switch? Where do the wires go? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks-Larry

Of course it will work. A neutral safety switch is highly advisable, but not necessary. Without it, you can start the motor full throttle in gear, which can be a major bummer to your passengers. That's probably why the dealer wouldn't help you. Liability and lawyers and such. Or he was just a jerk. Take yer pick. :D

It pretty well has everything in it you need.
