Ok a newbie here. I have just purchased my first boat and my first outboard with it. I have a 1978 70 hp evinrude that I want to have a few questions answered. First is the water pump, when I connect the muffs and start her up she spits water out in vents just above the inlet and then some water comes out at one of the joints, i don's see water coming out at anypoint along the top, but when I shut her down I can here water draining out of the top. I have run her for a bit with the muffs, and she never got hot on the cylinders. was easily able to touch them. Second question, i just did a deep clean with seafoam and after wards I removed the sparkplugs and noticed the plugs are a bit wet, is this from the deep clean or from the oil/fuel mix being too rich? how do I fix. engine starts up great and seems to run OK. can increase the trottle and she revs but sounds a bit rough, is this normal, or do I need to take a look at something. Last question, when I purchased it, the previous owner told me that the gasket at the bottom of the power head was bad causing the exhaust to leak back into cowl, if it is set at idle for a while. There are a few holes drilled into the cowl(which I will fix) but does this sound like it could be true.
