I just purchased a 1978 Johnson, after resealing the lower unit which I knew was bad from the test run, I attempted to fire the engine, which I have heard run. I'm not sure what happened, but apparantly I have lost spark in two plugs, both the same side. Upon further inspection i could tap the "power pack" with my hand and get the spark to go. I ordered a new power pack. I Cranked on that thing for quite some time while making sure I had spark on that side. Couldn't get the motor to fire forever. when I pulled the plugs they were dry. How long does it take to pull the fuel into the motor, I shouldn't have to burn up an entire battery, anyone have any easy fixes, I'm putting off cleaning carbs till this winter unless that is absolutly what it is going to take. Any suggestions, is that normal...

Possible that old fuel has dried up in the carb passages. It may be blocking fuel flow through the carbs. A complete disassembly and cleaning of both carbs with an aerosol carb cleaner may be all that is needed.

thanks emdsap... I really appreciate the info. that is what I'm shooting for this winter. I am waiting on a power pack from the local boat supplier, it was supposed to be here today, but no call. We'll see if they got it this afternoon.:(
