The Saga Continues....
I have Decarbed the motor and got it running better, Ran compression check again with the following results...
Top Cyl 95 PSI
Mid Cyl 120 PSI
Bot Cyl 125 PSI

Took the motor out Tuesday and ran her...ran fair to start with but began acting like someone was cutting the plug wires, eventually seemed like running on only one cylinder. I have cleaned the carbs, and when I was looking at the lower carb today, I noticed that the needle valve was "Misshapen"... The others have an orange rubber tip, but this one looks like it has been cut off. Does a new carb kit come with new needle valves?

Ron
The Fishin Musician.

RMedus.... Yes, caruretor kits come with new float needle valves. However, you have a 30 psi difference between #1 cyl and #3 cyl which indicates a major problem. I strongly suggest that you do not run the engine until you find the cause and remedy it.

For starters, I'd suggest that you remove the cylinder head in order to inspect the pistons, cylinder walls, and the head gasket.

RM...I would second Joe's post. Continued running could make matters worse for the engine and you. Pull the head and look at the cylinders for scoring. It could be that all you have are stuck piston rings from years of use and non-decarboning. Address it now while you still have compression on that cylinder. You may have none later and a junk engine. Good Luck!

Re: 1978 e-rude 75 Horse

Here we go again.... I rebuilt all 3 carbs, #2 was full of varnish and gum, I had cleaned out 1 and 3 earlier but all 3 have new innards in them.
I scoped, (Borescoped that is) the #1 Cylinder and it still had lots of carbon on the piston head, I didn't see any scoring on the cylinderwalls and it didn't appear as though the piston rings were not contacting the walls. I soaked the #1 cylinder in Sea foam again and let it set about 45 minutes while I finished the carbs and then put the plugs in and fired her up. She sounded alot stronger and blew lots of smoke from the sea foam. after the smoke was gone, I shut her down, pulled the plugs, opened the throttle and did a compression test again.
This time I got 96 on the top cylinder, 110 on the middle cylinder and 118 on the bottom.
This is not sounding good to me.... So tell me oh wise ones....what next?

Ron
The Fishin Musician

Hi Ron.

What next? Do what Joe advised you to do. Pull the head and inspect the innards and the head gasket.

Good luck. :)
