I have an Evenrude 115 that will start fine out of the water, but as soon as I launch, the motor will not start. Talking with friends, we think it has something to do with the carburator draining gas because it's trimmed so high on the transom while trailering. If anyone has similar problems or any solutions, I would grately appreciate any suggestions.

It has to do with the added backpressure on the exhaust while under load.

What is your starting procedure? Do you have it trimmed up while starting?

Have you checked the spark and compression to start? What did you find?

Hi Chris,
When starting motor, the trim is down. Spark and compression tests done and are O.K. Started engine today in bucket; started right up.

I've tried every trim position. In order to start engine I have to use a
quick start spray, than everything seems fine. But it's that first start that gives me trouble. I don't want to use a quick start spray every time.
(Thanks for the info link - I've gone through that procedure)

No offense, but throw that quick start spray in the garbage, it can fatally harm your motor. Use premixed fuel in a spray bottle instead. You could have a fuel delivery issue then. When were the carbs last rebuilt?

No idea. Just purchased the motor w/ a Wellcraft two months ago. Do you know where I could get the kits for this particular motor? It has two carbs (as you probably know) I have a friend that can do the work.

Thanks for your help Chris. Will purchase a rebuild kit and see if that corrects my problem.
