Hello gents. I am a bit stumped on this one, so I thought I could come here and give it a stab to see if you guys can help me out before heading to a boat mechanic and spend my life savings. Hehehe. Here goes, I have a 1978 Evinrude 115 motor with tilt that I've had for two years and up to now, I've had zero issues. I last used the boat on 06/07/12 and ran about a mile to and from my fishing spot. The motor ran like always strong and no issues. Well, fast-ward to this past Monday. I get to the lake and darn motor takes forever to start up. Well, after about 15min of trying, it starts and off I go, but it will only turn 3200 WOT! I make it to my fishing spot and fish for a few hours and head back to the docks. Again, I have a heck of a time starting it up. It fires up and I have to quickly put it in gear or it will die. I make it back to shore and as soon as I put it in neutral, it dies. I get home and try to start it up and its a no go. I am getting fuel to the carbs, the fuel bulb is full and hard when I pump it, my batteries are freshly charged, all fuses are intact, the fuel is only a few days old(50:1)ratio. Motor turns over strong, but it wont start. I do at times get it to start for a few seconds and then it dies at neutral. The only thing I did different is that I didn't burn out the fuel in the carbs from my 06/07/12 trip. Do you gents have any insight? Thanks in advance.

I would start with a couple of tests, spark and compression.
You might try squirting some fuel mixture into the carbs and see if it will keep running, if it does you have some fuel delivery problems.
Could be fuel pump, lines or connections or carbs.

Thanks Admiral. I believe I figured it out. I changed out the plugs since they looked really bad. Motor now idles perfectly and seems to run smooth. I'll buzz the local lake in a few days and give back a report. Thanks for your time sir.
