Hi guys. New here as you can see. I recently picked up a 7.5hp 1978 gamefisher and half of the handle was broken off. the rod that turns the linkage rod was sticking out of the steering hub and the handle is missing. anyone know where I could pick up a new steering hub or handle with the rod and gear assembly?

be careful, there not all interchangeable! seems the clutch drive models used a narrower shorter twist grip than the other fat longer deluxe and twin models, I'm not sure what your 78 has but I'm guessing the short narrow multi ribbed Twist grip....sears parts diagrams may help, post your model number PLEASE

I think the ebay one is a fatty multi rib...theres about 3-4 styles

Also there is a lever on the side of the motor with a rod that runs up under the cowling into a small hole in the bottom of the motor. any clue what this is?

shifter, F-N

as far as the twist grip, I have been checking numbers from 1977-1984 and ther all giving different no. for the Twist grip hub...some are long and wide some are short and narrow...its really hard to tell, could you post a picture of yours?

Amazingly Sears has your hub listed as in stock and the price is not bad

i wish i could post a picture of the twist grip but it was already broken off when i got the motor. i was looking in your signature at the eska files and came upon this http://www.boatsportandtackle.com/servlet/the-2149/TILLER-HANDLE--dsh--ESKA/Detail. I was looking at the sears parts list for that model and it looks like its a longer handle that is picture in the ebay ad. what would be the difference other than the length of the handle?

The base of the hub is wider so it has a larger gear set and shaft lengths very

That looks like my steering hub! I emailed him and asked him if he would part it out and said if it doesn't sell then yes. So I'm hoping it don't sell. Does anyone know how to adjust the adjustment screws on the carb?
