1978 Johnson 35 hp shift linkage question

I have a 35e78r with a broken shift linkage (part number 388655). I have a couple of parts motors sitting around and the part numbers don't match but I'm curious if anyone here knows if they will work or can be made to work.

The parts motors are a 1968 Johnson 18 hp model 18802m the shift linkage for that motor is part number 379794. The other parts motor is a 1983 johnson 35 hp part number 0394574. The part on the 18 looks very similar, but I want to know for sure before I start disassembling the 35 so I've got the right part here to put it back together. I don't like leaving motors sitting around disassembled because I'm bad to lose stuff.

Either they are different in some way, which is why they have different Part #s, or they are the same, but the old number has been superseded to the new number. However without have the parts in front of us, there is no way to tell. BTW 'very similar' to you, might look 'Way Different' to me or someone else
