I have an old Merc that I've converted into a tiller. In doing so I decided to keep the electric start and charging system.

I've got the electric start all working, but I've got a couple of questions about the charging system.

First, there are two wires that come off the stator/lighting coil and both go to the rectifer. Does it matter which wire goes on the left and which goes on the right?

I suspect that it doesn't make a beans worth of difference, but I thought I'd ask to be sure.

Second, can the wire coming off the rectifier be connected directly to the battery side of the solenoid to allow charging?

TIA

It doesn't matter which side goes where and yes you can connect the output to the battery cable.

That's kind of what I thought. Thanks for confirming it for me.
