1978 merc 90 6cyl starting problems

S/N 4847591<br />Starts when cold, idled well for ten minutes.engine temp fine to(touch), water pump flow good, exhaust good (both sides). Gave it a quick rav and it responded good. Back at idle for a few<br />minutes and all of a sudden engine quick shut down. tryed to restart could not. Checked for spark in the dark, none that i could see in the dark.<br />local boat shop mehcanic said it sounds like when it finally warmed up the switch box malfunctioned.<br /><br />what do you thick (experts only)

Does the engine have a Single power pack or does it have 2?<br /><br />If it has 1 powerpack the problem could also lie within the trigger "distributor housing".<br /><br />If it has 2 powerpacks...you may only need to replace 1 of them. The Tech should know which one.<br /><br />TMD

thank you marine doctor: it has one coil, and one<br />switch box. Powerpack, I haven't heard of that,so I 'll ask.
