I did some trading yesterday and ended up with a 1978 Mercury 110 9.8 hp outboard.
it starts and runs just fine, however, the water flow from the side pee hole is very intermittent.

I don't know much about Mercury outboards,
so my question is this.

Is there a thermostat involved?
or do I need to replace the impeller?

thanks,
John

No thermostat. Three things are automatic anytime I get a used motor. Fresh gearlube, new sparkplugs, and a water pump rebuild including backflush. The backflush may be nothing more than compressed air into the pee hole with the gearcase removed. Water is better for backflushing, but hard to feed into some motors including yours.

Okay thanks WillyBWright ....

Yeah, I do the same with the OMC's usually, but this is my first small Mercury so I wanted to make sure d:)

Looks like that impeller is about $12 -$15

I appreciate the fast response

What part of Wisconsin are you in?

Thanks
Happy 4th
