Hello, I just had a few questions about an 1978 rude 35 that im looking at buying. The owner says that the motor runs great, but wont start right now because it needs new throttle controls/cables, it is a remote motor. It will turn over but wont start, he says no way to get fuel. What id like to know is there anyway that I can bypass the cables and get fuel to the motor for start, thats the only way i can be sure thats it runs great as he says. Also i want to check the compression, what is a good range for this motor compression wise? Is there a good place to buy throttle cables online at a good price?
Thanks for all of your help in advance!
Flounder guy.

Welcome!!

The cables have nothing to do with it starting or not starting. You can unhook them and operate the throttle by hand. If it was going to start it would.

As long as the compression is within 15 lbs (not %) of each other its fine.

fg, does it have the battery cables attached to it? is it mounted on a boat or stable platform? does it have a gas can and hose? do you have a good battery to attach ot it? if you have all this, you can get a remote start button for auto parts store, with cover off you can attach at starter solinoid, throttle is on opposite side of engine. MAKE SURE IT IS MOUNTED WELL.

If it starts with the harness detached, when you get ready to kill it, the only way will be to choke it. Actually, that's how many "stop" switches worked in the '50's.

Side note: My '77 35hp pumps 145 lb/cylinder.
