I bought a champion bass boat a few weeks ago with a 1979 200 hp merc on it I've run it 5 times, today it started missing, i come home and pulled the plugs (the plugs are new) four plugs had loose plug wires on the coil end, so i pluged them back in good, now its idleing at 2200rpm, where it did idle at 700rpm, the idle adjestment screw is NOT tuching the stop, I cant figure out why the idle is so high

any ideas, any body?

The best thing to do is perform a link and sync from beginning to end. If you fiddle with one setting (such as the idle screw) when another previous setting is also wrong, you will likely just make things worse. This is especially true(in my opinion) since it is a new motor to you and you can't be sure what is set correctly and what is not. Each link and sync step is dependent on all previous link and sync steps being correctly done.

Of course, you can first try jiggling the linkage to the carbs to see if something is hanging up.
