have you tried disconnecting the shift cable and putting it in gear manually. your cables may be stretched or need adjusting, if you put it in gear manually, and it still does it. it sounds like the clutch dog is going. when putting your motor into forward or reverse, it should be a quick shift, not the old let's listen to the gears mesh. the gears and clutch dog have very square teeth, and if you shift slowly, the edges wear, and it won't stay in gear. hopefully it's just the cable has stretched. if you can't adjust it out, replace cable.

Do you have a spare prop you can try ?Usually a manual gearcase can't "slip" out of gear.It does it with more of "bang".

But prop hubs do fail and "slip".If the spare prop works OK,send the old one out for re-hubbing.
