Hi all! I have a Johnson 1979/80 motor. I use it on my sailboat, but when I do I prefer to use my sailboat tiller to steer the boat. I just leave the motor running straight ahead and it works fine.

However, this year the throttle on the motors tiller arm has been looser then the past. It not gradually slows down and I have to keep reaching back to speed it up again.

I looked in my motor maintenance book, but there is nothing about adjusting the tension on the throttle arm.

Does anyone know how to adjust the tension on the throttle arm?

What is the model number of your engine? Usually there is a friction control, need to know what engine you have.

Probably a 9.9 or 15, it should have a slow idle screw out the side of the motor but it sounds like some 9.9/15 owners yours is missing. This is a pic of my 75

It acts as a throttle stop and if it isn't there the motor will die. Ebay has a couple for sale right now if you are missing it.
