Removed stringers, floor and wet foam. I did side panels with new speakers. I am waiting for better weather to place new stringers.

I love 1708. Easy to work, better than CSM and the finish is very nice. I have a question: Can I use 1708 for the deck?
One coat of 1708 only for the deck? or
Do I have to place CSM first and on top 1708?

Jay looking good. Welcome aboard the Restore Ward.
The worst part is done. I like how you used your transome tie down eyes to hold the corner peices of transome in place.Have you done the center section of transome yet?
I didn't use 1708 in mine so I can't comment on that.
Which engine and stern drive combo do you have?

Friends, I have problems with CSM, not happy with the final product. How I have to do the CSM? I placed resing on the pywood and after CSM and more Resin. Fiberglass "hairs" all over. I used new roller from homedepot. How you guys do CSM?

what you need is 1.5 inch chip brushes. (Generic paint brushes). wet out the wood with a nice layer of poly, then wait 10 15 min let it tak up a little. then lay the csm doun on the wood. then use a lot of resin with the chip brush and pound and push the resin in with the chip brush, dont paint the resin on. dab and push it into the csm. The rollers did not work for me on the csm! you litearlly have to dab pound push the resin into the csm... Makes sence????

Mxcobra, Thanks Your boat project looks like mine. Yes I did wrong with the CSM. I placed resin and right after that the CSM I did not wait 10 0r 15 min like you said. Also I did not used brushes. I will keep pics. of my restoration.

Allbutwet, since your boat is similar to mine, I will take some of your ideas. Thanks

Guys, I need help!!! I had to replace bellows in my 280 outdrive and I am changing oil. What kind of oil I should use. Some body told me is the same of your engine (10-30) but when I drained the old oil It was syntetic.

I wish your wise and experience advice.

Thanks

For the Aq drive series, Volvo always recommeded 30w oil, same as engine. The newer drives call for synthetic...Either will work. Synthetic would be an upgrade, just dont use gear oil.

Im not sure if synthetic was even widely used when they made the old manuals.....

I am officially done with stringers. I am ready for next step. I am going to use for the floor (deck) 5/8" I think 3/4" will be too thick and heavy.
What do you guys think?

Hello Jayboat.
Man your glasswork is crazy neat and clean. It looks great. I'm definitely not an expert, but I used 3/4 inch ply for my deck it came out very solid. I knew I didn't want to go 1/2 inch. the weight difference in 3/4 vs. 5/8 was pretty negligible. I was also using Arauco ply which at least at the time was not available in 5/8." If you had 1/2 inch originally then I would imagine that would fit the bill again and 5/8 would be an upgrade especially with the glasswork you've done.

Once again, not an expert so just an opinion but I used Woodonglass' schedule for layup on all of my woodwork, transom, stringers and deck. The result is a tank. If I were to do it again, I may cut down on some of the CSM layers as the 1708 really does seem to have enough CSM to sufficiently bond to the substrate but it would depend on the situation I guess. I will say with 100% confidence if you do follow his schedule, you will not have any doubts about the deck's structure.

I have a question for you, on your trim/speaker panel did you stitch the beige/grey and white together or just fold each color over the other in the pleats?

Thanks and keep up the good work.
