5/8" for the floor is good. 1708 will be fine, but is way over kill in my opinion. When ever you are working with fiberglass you always precoat the wood with resin, always. When it starts to tack up and cure then apply the CSM. When working on large areas I like to pour the resin on the glass in the middle and then use a 8" plastic putty knife and drag the resin over the mat to wet it out, Draggin from the middle out towards the edges, and then use a 4" Chip Brush with 1/2 the bristles cut off to DAB the mat down into the resin as it starts to set up I roll it down with the bubble roller to make sure its secure and laying flat. It always works well for me and I get level flat surfaces. I only use rollers on the 1708. Also with resin LESS is MORE. You can always add more resin but it's hard to remove it when you pour on to much.:D

You are doing great glasswork. As far as deck size it would really depend on if you have the room. I don't, My cap come down and sits on the floor If I go over 1/2" then my cap will need to be cut. I am not familiar with your style so I can not say for sure. But that gives you an idea what to look for!

mercruiser470fan, I did not replaced the fuel tank but the old tank is good and I checked with air pressured. I did not take the boat out the trailer before the "demolition" LOL and you are very right on that all of that are mistakes people made often.

The stringers were wood core and I replaced them for the same style (wood) I was thinking to replaced them with foam stringers but I did not get enough info about.
Thanks for your questions, I am going to place more pics. soon

Finally the deck!!! I am very happy with the fiberglass job on the stringers. Thanks to all of you for your postings and videos on YouTube, I will keep this boat for more years. I know now what is underneath of the deck.

Next step: foam. Where can I buy foam? I want to save money!!!

You only need the 2# foam and USComposites is about the cheapest place to get it. You can calculate how much you'll need by measuring the Height of the stringers at their Highest Point and their length and the width of the area to be filled. Then multiply these 3 numbers together to give you cubic inches and then divide by 1728 to get cubic feet. Example Stringer is 7" tall 120" long and the area to be filled is 24" wide. This would be 20160 cubic inches divided by 1728 which would be 1.66 cubic feet. But most stringers taper towards the bow so to allow for this you can decrease by about 20% so you would prolly only have approx 9 cubic feet of area to fill.

Hope this helps.

More pics. I did the lower of my engine cover (box) and the back panels. I cover the plywood with thick resin and the engine box with fiber glass and marine carpet from MENARDS on sale now for $0.79 a foot. good deal!!!.

The white board I am holding is what I used to make the engine box, It is a plastic trim for exterior sold at
Home Depot

Some body from Us Composites told me the right way to pour foam is before the deck is installed
I feel bad making holes in my new deck.
What you guys think?

Myself, I don't like holes in the deck so I am going to use the false deck method. Mix the foam and pour it in the cavity to fill and put a board with a hole in it on top. Weigh it down and wait for the foam to cure. Remove the board and put the foam that oozed out into the next cavity and repeat. I think that is how it is done.

And your glass work is immaculate. I can only hope to achieve such good results.

bakerjw, You have a good idea. I will do that way for my next boat; unfortunately I have to drill holes.

False deck method is the way to go!!!

actually I think, well what I tried to achieve. was Adhesion to under side of deck for strength. If you can achieve a complete fill, and foam adhesion to hull and deck, in theory their would be no room under deck left for water, or condensation intrusion.

I have a question: What is the anode? or what is the funtion? I was painting my outdrive 280 and the anode was broke. I ordered a new kit.
