Guys, another question.
How many layers of 1.5 fiber glass mat do I need? I want to paint the deck.
Somebody told me 2 is ok, but I want to know how many you guys think it is ok

I am very happy with my new fiber glass deck. I need ideas to finish the deck. Paint or carpet?

Looks good. It depends on how you intend to use it, and your budget. You'll likely want it to not be slippery, so whether it's painted, gelcoated, vinyl or carpet, you'd be seeking non-slip/non-skid.

Carpet may not be your friend if you intend to have fishhooks or blood and guts on the deck a lot.

For gelcoat or paint, you can add aggregate such as sand or crushed walnut shell or rubber compounds, or choose a coating that already provides this feature.

JasOutside used Behr Deckover on his boat, and seems pleased. It's affordable, designed to be used on heavy traffic areas, and fills minor imperfections. Read his thread for pictures and comments.

I agree. Usage dictates finish. If mainly pleasure boating, carpet all the way. Blood and guts, Vinyl!!!! JMHO!!

I think Gel coat with some carpert I can take off for clean the boat or fishing. GWPSR, your boat is a BIG project, I like your ideas. I have to look the thread you said will be another option.

I don't know about vinyl. Any particular brand? and where can I get vinyl for the deck?

Jayboat, you are a maniac!:)

Your work is fantastic and the short time you completed it in is impressive.

I have been struggling with the paint/carpet question too. I will likely put down a 2 part paint then snap or Velcro a fitted carpet down. The snaps or Velcro will be bonded to the deck with epoxy so they do not penetrate.

My problem is too much thinking and not enough doing. You seem to have struck a nice mix... well done!

Team, Now the bayliner is lighter... so I went to the lake just for a test... I think the prop need to be replace by diferent size. Now I have 15X17 R the rpm goes to 4800 at max speed.

I am thinking replace for 15X19. Anybody have an opinion?

Mxcobra, thanks. I just bought gel coat very good price, half of the price of durabak. Durabak looks good but expensive. About the prop I will buy 15x19, I need to lower the rpm, 4300 will be perfect, actually is recommended by volvo.

What prop works better, right or left rotation?

I am very happy with the gel coat job. I took a good look the videos of jay on you tube and some mistakes made for some people, plus the advice from my friend from FIberglass supply depot, and this what I did!
