1979 Carver omc

I have a 1979 Crarver omc 350 v8. My problem is when I try and get power, it stalls and boggs down. It runs well in neutral ..purrs like a baby....but when I put it in gear and under loan it just does not want to get up and go. Driving me nuts. Please advise, anybody.

Welcome to iboats....
It sounds like a fuel delivery issue.....
Have you checked/replaced your water separating fuel filter?
Other things to check would be:
Tank vent blocked.....
Fuel pick-up screen partially clogged....
Anti-siphon valve partially clogged....
Filter screen at base of carb partially clogged....
These are things you can visually check for free....
Afuel pressure test would be next....
If that checks out, the carb. would be next.....
I'm assuming the flame arrestor is clean.....

Oh, when was the last time it was tuned up?
Points, plugs, wires?......
