1979 Checkmate Ententainer Jetboat engine problems

I got this boat on a trade and found i was taken a bit! ok what i have is this boat with a Ford 460 motor and Berkley jet drive. everything seems to work but the motor! so i took the motor down to a short block and redid the heads and all new gaskets. new starter and starter solenoid. ok so the motor is turning over great and i am getting spark and oh yeah i got a new carb for it also a Holley 800cfm electric choke. also i think the flywheel is cracked because sometimes it will turn over and sometimes it sounds like the stater is not connecting. I am wondering if i got a wrong starter because i am not even sure if this motor runs reverse or like a car!!! I need help! Please!!!!

out mechanical friends on this site are truly gurus and can save you huge dollars. the are also glad to help if you follow thier instructions.

but first off.......lets get this movet to the right place. the mods will notify you and tell you where it gets moved to !.

Ayuh,... Sounds like ya need a new Ring Gear, not a flywheel...
It's only 'bout 50 bucks, but ya gotta pull the motor to get to the flywheel to replace the ring gear...

I'd imagine it's a standard rotation, left-handed motor...
