I am going to be using 3/4 inch ply laminated together for the engine boxes/mounts and then going over them with 1708. I think that I am just going to run the drains out the side one on each side right below the bilge pump exits.

Looking forward to seeing those engine boxes!
I've seen some boats with deck drains aft and some boats with them out the sides....Just don't put them so low that water will flow back up and onto your decks. I think mine sit about 8" or so above the water line.

Nice work man! Keep up the pics

I am hoping to have the engine mounts done this weekend. Should I bed these in PL the same as the rest of the stringers? I was thinking to put them right on the hull due to the weight that will be on them, even though the PL will be cured before the engine is set in will it still compress it? If it does what will this do to the glass that will be wrapping the mounts? Thanks in advance for the help!!

Re: 1979 Cruisers Beachcomber Holiday

Have not had too much time as of late to work on the boat. (the hony do list seems to never get caught up) I finally got all the stringers in and bedded in PL. Sunday I was able to get them cut to the proper height for the deck. But of course another set back, home from work sick today. Hopefully feel better for the weekend to get the glass work started. I am hoping to get the stringers glassed in one weekend. I do have a question as soon as the glass is dry to the the touch can I go over it with the next layer? I am thinking so but you never know. Pics will follow sometime this week.

You can do multiple layups over the wet glass....you just have to be careful of the heat that is generated by the resin. I would do 2 layers and wait till it's cooling down before hitting it again ;)

Finally got the stringers completely glassed in!!! Glad to have that behind me. I do have a question, I am going to be fully glassing the deck top and bottom and then gel coating the top. Seeing that no water should get past this do I need to make drains in each of the stringer/bulkhead compartments? I don't have any right now but before I do the deck figured I better ask.

Re: 1979 Cruisers Beachcomber Holiday

Sorry I missed your post Pete..... I did drains in my stringers and bulks......ski locker too.... For the hour or so of work I put them in....

I figure they are there and if water does get in somehow I want it to be able to get to the bilge and get pumped out.... Water will find its way into the smallest of penetrations...
