Hmmm, that is strange. I couldn't resist so I typed that figure in with the dollar sign and also ended up with the figure of .95, but removing the dollar sign allowed the proper figure to appear. Weird!

Symbols such as dollar signs are assigned to the Emoticons to the left of the reply box. :$:$:$:

I did not mean to indicate that I like it.

Re: 1979 Evenrude 115 Outboard

Hello, I just found your forum and it looks like I can find plenty of info and help. An elderly neighbor gave me his 1979 17' Glassmaster runabout powered by an Evinrude 115 v4. Owner said he didn't get a lot of use out of the boat but he doesn't want to be bothered with selling it especially since it hasnt been run in 10 years.Boat has been storaged in a tin building since he bought it new. I had a chance to look at it yesterday and it appears to be in very good condition considering its age. Boat has been covered and there is some dust/mildew on interior but hull looks great, still polished, with hardly any dings in the bottom.

The engine also looks very clean with very little corrosion. Prop looks almost new too. I went ahead and pulled three plugs, couldn't get to number 4 with limited number of tools that I took to the lake. I went ahead and poured some engine oil into cylinders until I figure out best way to prep engine. The engine and prop both rotate very easily.

I guess I should rebuild carbs and I am wondering where to order kits. I called Westmarine this morning and they have the Seloc Evinrude manual in stock so will run over there and pick it up shortly.

Boat is on a galvanized trailer too, but I need to buy tires for it. If I can get this boat set up reliably, I would really enjoy doing some lake fishing and possibly some bay fishing at the coast.

Thanks,

Hi jdp526,

This is a forum, not a chat room You'll get better help if you post a new thread.

If that's been sitting that long, I'd replace the water pump before you take it out.

The best carb kits are the ones from the dealer. I've had bad luck from others.

Thanks for the note, Alden. You mentioned changing out the water pump, are you suggesting replacing complete pump or just the impeller?

I picked up the Seloc manual and it looks like an excellent detailed manual for engine work. I do see where the complete water pump can be replaced with an updated version. I need to re-read info to determine if there are any extra gaskets or o-rings that need to replaced when lower unit is removed. Manual also requires using a gasket sealant with re-assembling. Is there a proper Loctite brand that can be subbed for the omc 1000 sealant?
