Hi again everyone. I have recently taken the tilt/trim motor off my 1979 Evinrude 140hp for the purpose of repair. The shop tells me the motor is FUBAR. My problem is that the T&T unit was an add-on to the outboard and that the numbers in the service manual do not coincide with this particular unit. The motor that drives the unit is a two wire motor. The one listed in the service manual is a three wire. I need the two wire motor. The shop tells me they can get an OMC 3853945 motor to replace it. Through my research, I have found that this particular motor is designed differently where the bolts protrude through, and into, the pump. Here is a photo of the pump.....

My motor looks more like this, only two wire...

If anyone can help in my search for a new pump, I sure would appreciate the help. Thanks in advance for your advice.

a clear picture of your trim system would be more help. There are only a few trim systems. A few pieces vary from engine to engine but there is pretty much just one new type of trim per decade.

The PT&T for your outboard changed to a two wire motor in the early 1980's the Arco 6220 fit most of them: http://www.iboats.com/mall/partfind...gd_poid=187600&gd_row=50&**********=041066604

BINGO!!! ...... That's what I was looking for ezeke. As I understand this, there was a kit sold for these systems that converted the older systems from the three wire to the newer two wire setup. The particualar kit this motor has, has a control box for the wiring harness. Might you know the OMC number(s) for such a kit? I think it was 582192 ??? Thanks a bunch, once again, for your assistance. Much appreciated!

Also, check your messages. I sent you a PM...... ;-)

Re: 1979 Evinrude 140 HP Tilt/Trim motor?

your original post reads like this to me ...

"I have something other than a factory trim system installed on my outboard. For all you know it is made by Mercury and welded onto my motor. But it is probably just a BRP from some other year. Here is a picture of a motor that does not work with it. Here is a broken link to a picture of the existing motor. Can anybody tell me where to buy a new trim motor for an unidentified trim system?"

that said ..., if I had to guess then I'd guess you're looking for a 2wire sea drive.

Part number 582192 is a pre-wired relay control box for the two wire trim motors with the cables already connected. The relays are in place, so it is ready to hook up and go.
