1979 Evinrude 140 Joe Reeves timing question.

I checked the timing as per Joe Reeves meathod. With the exception of taking the plugs out. I simply wired the high tension leads to my home made spark tester and cranked the engine over and checked the timing to see where I was at. I was dead on 24*. The timing on my powerhead is supposed to be set at 28*. So I'm fine where it is, that is, IF the plugs NOT being removed isn't an issue. I was going to check the timing again with the plugs out but I broke this clip on the timing base. If anyone knows where I can get a new one, I would really appreciate it..........Thanks!.............................ALAN

try napa, they have an selection of those, not sure if they have them that big, you can also check any local auto parts store on the help rack

Thanks.........I'm on my way there now. Just to be safe, I'll replace the broken part and remove the plugs to re-check the timing. Doesn't take but a couple minutes anyhow. Thanks................ALAN

Bombardier part number 395448-ball and socket.-around $ 3. They get brittle with age.
