i would check sensor coil voltage .5v and up shorts to ground. and check charge coil voltage 150v at cranking, and another shorts to ground check. any voltage going to ground would be a bad component. you should use a peak reading volt meter for voltage checks. consult your service man. for ohms readings.. but would suspect charge coil or sensor coils..you might also want ot check your black/yellow wires (kill side) and make sure that they are not partially grounded w/ key on.

SP

are you saying that not the power packs on the side of the engine or the coils at each cylinder but the trigger assemble under the flywheel? a marine mechanic has given me one to try and see if this helps. ive checked all my wiring and found no reason to suspect any wires going to ground. i will check the black and yellow wires that are on the key side for grounding but dont suspect to see anything. are the charge coils and sensor coils the same as the trigger base "spark timer" if so i have a known good one installed but waiting on the rain to quit before i can see if this has cured the problem. also when i had the flywheel off i found no loose or missing magnets. is this something to concider that magnetism is going. this may also give clues to my trouble. the charging system has not worked since buying this boat 3 months ago. and also is it possible that the stator under the flywheel could cause a lack of spark if it had some small cracking in the coating on the wound wires "no copper is open to air" but it does hava some small cracking.
