Now we are getting a closer comparison. I assume you are running that engine on your Aquasport; even though the boat is smaller than mine, the hull lines look similar. Can you tell me what engine RPM and boat speed achieved the 10 gal/hr? I guess in a couple of months when it warms up here, any surprises I have on fuel consumption will be good ones..........................Don

Yes on the aquasport.

Sadly, I can't give you the information you're looking for... I still havent redone the instrumentation, I was running alongside a buddies boat, and we turning around 35mph, and rough guestimate would be about 4500rpm when I got it optimized. Running that, I was able to get the 10gal/hour, full tank, plus little over half another.(had 3 tanks with me, 2x6gal, 1x12gal).

The worst economy was wide open which got me 42-45mph, and at WOT (5500ish), it killed the 12gal tank in about 45mins.

Hope the info helps! When I get the gauges all finished (hopefully this weekend), I will run some more tests.

i had a 200 on a 21 footer years ago, using a gps for mileage when I went too refill I figured up my mpg, the best I ever got was 2mpg, that was on a calm day...90% of the time it was around 1.7mpg,I would go thru 40+ gallons on most trip, glad gas was .99 at the time

Wow! That is over $100 an hour.

I haft to qualify that a bit the eng had some hop up work done to it so not a stock eng.
I would go through around 200 a day in fuel alone. The guy at the marina loved me.

That was pulling a tube hard. My kids are a crazy if I wasnt going as hard I could they would complane.

Well I would have to start pulling cash out of their college fund if they were my kids. : )

Again average for me is 1.75 Mpg. That was my summer average over all water and speed conditions.

I would reccomend if fuel cost are an issue, then look for another motor. These are the original gas guzzlers. They drink fuel like a drunk at a open bar wedding! They only stop when the tank is empty!

Sorry but, it's the truth.

As old rule of thumb goes, 10 % of the hp at wot. That means your mtr would burn 20 gal per hr at wot.
Sorry to chime in late. X2 on the 'old rule of thumb' for 2 strokes. My 90 crossflow @ wot will burn 9 gal an hour without a hickup. As someone said they're thirsty sobs.

For cruising 30mph @ 3K is the magic # to shoot for with these motors.

edit: For best fuel economy rotate ignition key counterclockwise to the OFF position ...

"economy" and 200 HP outboard don't belong in the same paragraph. At full tilt boogie I'm spending upwards of $1.50 per minute. I guess the consolation is that at 20 or so gallons per hour I'm going 65 mph, which works out to a little better than 3 mpg. I'd bet I get more than 3.5 mpg at a more mundane 45 or so.

With boats your fuel burn is a lot more dependent on the boat itself rather than the engine. Hull design, weight, loading, and condition all play major roles in efficiency. I'd bet that most outboard engines have efficiencies within a few percent of each other at the same power output. Sure, fuel injected engines are better than carbed engines, but not by an awful lot. And of course engines that have been "worked on" will suck more gas, part of that being because they simply need the extra fuel for cooling.

Hope my wife never reads this thread. I told her I fished all last summer with my '90 175GT on a 20' Nitro bassboat for about thirty bucks worth of fuel. When I still had my plane I had her believing my hanger rent and insurance was $35 a month. After being married less than 2 years she found out what it really cost and I ended up selling it to some guy in Michigan with a more understanding wife.
