I recently purchased a 1979 evinrude 55 hp (2 cylinder i was told they made a 3 cylinder the same year ? ) The motor has not been started in several years and of course I want to change the water pump. Here is my question. If I understand correctly to un hook the shifting linkage it is under the carbs. I can see the linkage but I see two bolts. One of the bolts that I see (if you were standing in front of the motor looking at the carbs) the head of the bolt is facing me. On that same linkage is another bolt but the head is facing to the right of the engine . Which bolt do I need to remove? Also any pointers or some things that I would not normally think of doing on this particular motor? I have replaced a few impellers over the years but mainly on 25 hp and smaller. thank you Curtis

Remove the bolt from the PORT side that goes straight through the vertical rod. Do not forget the gear housing bolts hidden under the trim tab.
