I have been a member for a while but just bought my first boat. It is a 1980 Sea Sprite with a 1979 Evinrude 85 model 85995R. This motor does not have power tilt or trim. I would like to add power and was doing some research as to what I have to do to add it. It looks to me like it is a 3 wire unit. Can anyone tell me what years and what size will fit this motor? Also do you have to buy the complete mount or just the unit with the tilt and trim cylinders and motor that fits inside the stock mount that is on the boat? It looks like these units from a 1978-1981 70, 75, 85, 90, 100, 115, 1977-1981 150, 175, 185, 200, 225, and 235 all use the same 3 wire motor.

Thanks

Randy

waterproof hydraulic pumps aren't cheap. Your best shot at getting something cheap and reliable is the little "L" shaped thing p/n 0172137. the chrysler force version is same unit with different paint.

You are correct, any of those trim systems will work on your engine. The early models that had the 3 wire motor also had a separate trim solenoid box which would mount under the rear splashwell of the boat. The later models had a 2 wire motor used a relay box mounted on the exhaust cover inside the cowling. Just make sure you get a (correct) box with whatever trim unit you find.

Does the trim tilt unit fit in the housing that is already on the boat or do I have to buy the complete setup?
