1979 johnson 140=v4 idle adjustment

Is there a way to increase the idle speed on this engine.I replaced the carbs last year with another pair because of a leak,shop told me 1 carb was warped fuel bowl so I scored a pair off of ebay.very easy to install myself. the new ones dont leak so thats corrected.I cleaned the carbs before installing them. It keeps dying when i lower the fast idle lever it barely stays running at lowest point and when I try to put it in gear it always stalls. It will start right back up though. otherwise runs good.

Yep piece of cake. Looking at the starboard side of the engine, you see the linkage cluster. Threaded into the linkage is what looks like a 3 inch or so long screw that is perpendicular to the linkage, just give it say half a twist and see if that don't help. This is the quick fix. The good and long fix is to follow the service manual with a proper link and sync, and reverify idle rpms and timing.

I have the same motor with the same symptom. Although the idle on mine does not drop till after im out on the river for a bit. This boat is new to me and ive been told the carbs were rebuilt 2 years ago. Im looking into a possible fuel contamination problem since it was stored with fuel tank full.
