1979 johnson ignition key wireing

35hp johnson remote key has 3 wires green,white,black, I cannot get them right, choke works, engine starts so I have something right. The problem is engine will not cut off with key. Any ideas? thanks guys

do you have a lanyard kill switch near the key and does that work?

You should have 2 black wires or one of them black with a yellow stripe. Those 2 short together when the key is turned OFF and "kill" the ignition system. They attach to the M terminals on your switch.
