1979 johnson ignition switch

so i was replacing the ignition switch yesterday because i lost the keys to my previous one and as i was wiring it back together i did not disconnect the battery laziness so wired together i went to stat the motor and and nothing so can the ign switch be fryed from tapping the wires against it can it be the selinoid cause no power went off not even a click i disconnected the selinoid and tapped the starter with the battarey line and and it started could it just be a bad selinoid or can it be the ig switch help guys thanks ??

You probably popped the fuse. It's in the wiring near the starter solenoid. It's a short 20 amp but you probably won't have one. You can use a long 20 for testing until you get the right one.
