I need to know where to connect the tachometer wire to my 79 johnson sea horse 115. Any help?
inside of your control box is a solid gray wire, that is your tach signal wire. connect your power to your tach by splicing a wire off of your key switch that only has power when the key is turned on. i cant recall which wire or which post on the key switch it is, but a test light will make quick work of that. if you dont have a test light, invest in one, their cheap and very very useful. you want the light on the test light to turn on and stay on, only when the key is turned on. if you have other gauges in your boat that come on when the key is turned on, jump power off of one of them and hook to the tach. make sure you have a good ground, and connect your signal wire. set the tach for the proper pulse setting, on that motor you have a 12 pole alternator so set the tach to the right setting and try it out. if you want to connect the running light that lights up the tach for use at night, i would recommend taking power for the inside light by jumping off of your light switch so when you turn on your running lights, your tach will light up. like i said before, if you have other gauges in your boat, just jump power off of them for your tach.
