Hello,
Trying to eliminate possible problems with head overheating.
Have done the following but head still getting hot.
New water pump, thermostats, poppet valves. Removed heads, cleaned water jackets, replaced diverters. With lower unit off and thermostats removed, circulated water from pick tube, good flow, tale tale working, returning out exhaust. With thermostats removed and hoses off cover and forcing water up pickup tube, water flows out both heads evenly.
With all assembled and thermostats installed stbd head overheats and alarm sounds. No water in cylinders. Should I look in exhaust cover? Any suggestions? Thank you.

sounds like you did everything right. Are you sure the head overheats? Test with an infrared tester (or the heel of your hand). 160F is too hot, and is too hot to touch.

may be a bad sensor or a shorting horn.

Thanks for your reply. Too hot to hold hand on and dash gauge goes into red. Tested and replaced one bad temp. sensor. Thought I might have put diverters in wrong but double checked that. Head gaskets on backwards? Arrows towards center. Puzzled...

the water inlet holes on the gasket lined up correctly with inlet from t stat housing? should be opposite the inlet tube on the head, and tab pointing outboard either side
