Just got done completely overhauling the powerhead on my 1979 Mercury 115 (inline 6). New pistons, rings, machined, gaskets, fuel lines, etc. etc. etc.
Now for the problem - I don't think I'm getting fuel to the carbs. I replaced the diaphragms in the fuel pump (they came with the gasket set) but when I crank it over, I'm only getting a "dribble" of fuel out of the pump. I have plenty of fuel getting to the pump but nothing out ?????
Questions:
1) How much fuel should be coming out of the pump (weak stream like an old man with a bad prostate or a good strong one like a 24 year old)?
2) I did not replace the check valve in the fuel pump - could this cause the problem?
3) Although an extremely risky idea, how about replacing it with an inline electric fuel pump?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated (want to get this thing back up and running before winter sets in).
Thanks
