I have a 1979 Mercury Black Max 150 that will turn, but won't start. I had a primer bulb issue but solved that by hooking straight to a separate tank. Now, my problem is the fact that will not start. New gas, pulled out the syphon fuel pump, and it is very clean, gaskets look very good. I am asumming its a stator, coils, or that box on the side where all the wires connect to that I dont know the name to. How can I troubleshoot to find the culprit? I am not extremely familiar with outboards, and I own a voltmeter :)
Any help appreciated.
Les.

Have you checked for spark at all plugs? Is the starter turning the motor over at least 300 RPM?

When ya say ya sloved tha blub problem by goin' to another tank. Assuming it had a "good" bulb and is pumpin' up like it should. Does tha "choking" stuff work? Does that one has tha actual choke flappers on it or an enrichner. Can't remember when it changed for sure.

One way ta make sure its fire or fuel problem is by opening tha butterflies and squirting a small amount of fuel in each carburetor. That's if don't know how ta check for fire tha regular way and helps keep your socks on by "tryin' ta test for it.

I have no idea what kind it is. I know theres a choke button up in the console but pressing it does nothing i can notice. I havent tried squirting the fuel in. Might do that today after work.
