What is this Cable and where does it go? I thought the Choke Solenoid controlled the Choke.

Merc often used wires with eye on each end to operate the choke manually. It would normally attach to a plastic rod in the top cowling support, next to the choke solenoid.

Of course, the choke solenoid also needs a wire to operate. That one takes +12Vdc.

Hey, since you guys are discussing 1979 70hp Merc's, I was wondering if you may know why my propeller stopped rotating at the end of last summer? Or what to look for?

The engine still revs up and has full power, but the propeller doesn't engage in either forward or reverse. With it getting closer to summer know, I am hoping to tinker with this old thing and get it back in working order.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Holy Hijack, Batman. And off topic!

Please start a new thread about your in-op prop. Thanks.

E-bay is a good source for those solenoids.------Or retrofit an electric primer system on your motor as found on Johnson / Evinrude motors from about 1980 and on.----Yes those will make a good fit to your motor.-----Will make your motor easier to start than ever before !
