As the title states I have, what is believed to be, 1979 OMC cobra 4 cyl, model number 990243s. I need to know the proper spark plug gap. Just picked the boat up so there will be more questions to come...

but, while I have your attention, I also need to know the proper name and part number if possible for the solenoid looking part that seems to be attached to the starter. here is my issue, when i turn my key, gauges light up electronics work but nothing from the starter, not even the infamous clicking sound. I take a screwdriver and jump the positive and negative on that solenoid and the engine starts. I did a power check with a tester light and both positives posts have power to them when ignition is turned to the start position so the solenoid is getting power. I will post a pic shortly.

Thanks,

Jason

here are the best images i could get. on the top view (second image), the bolt on the right was jumped with a screwdriver to the main power and the engine started right up.

If the starter cranks the engine when you jump the starter, then the solenoid is not your problem. Have a look at this troubleshooting thread. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=167035

Spark plugs should be .035 .

Worked great! Turns out, the neutral safety switch was disconnected! Lol
